Useful Tips to get the best from your stove or fireplace 2017-03-16T16:02:46+00:00

Do not burn unseasoned firewood.

Burn hardwoods like our Premium Birch Logs. Hardwood logs burn cleaner, longer and hotter than softwood logs.
Some other examples of hardwood trees are oak, maple, walnut, ash, cherry, and poplar.

Avoid a smoldering fire. Burning a hot but safe fire will yield greater efficiency and achieve full combustion. A smoldering fire yields a lot of smoke and releases hazardous particulate matter into the air.
The less smoke there is, the more heat is produced.

Keep your chimney clean and in good working condition. Have a professional chimney sweeps do an annual cleaning and inspection. If a chimney is in a state of disrepair, it results in less efficient venting and more pollution.

If you don’t already have one, consider getting a fireplace insert for your open hearth fireplace. The efficiency of a fireplace insert can be up to 80%, whereas a regular fireplace usually only has about a 10% efficiency, at most.

Why Burn Kiln Dried Wood rather than Seasoned Wood? 2017-05-02T11:01:20+00:00

Put simply, the combustion process of burning a log is disrupted if the wood contains too much moisture. “Green” or badly seasoned wood creates a lot of pollution and greatly increases the amount of creosote that is deposited in a chimney lining. When you use our Premium Kiln Dried Firewood it is one of the most environmentally friendly fuels available. It reduces the amount of maintenance and cleaning of chimneys and may even extend the life of your stove. It also ensures the amounts of harmful particulate matter is greatly minimized.

But I get more wood weight in a pallet of seasoned wood, is this not better? 2015-07-27T15:13:40+00:00

With most things the more weight you get per £’s spent the better the value. This is not the case with firewood. Seasoned wood at 25% moisture will weigh more than our Kiln Dried Logs for the same 1.2m3. When you are burning seasoned wood much of the energy in the log goes into driving off the moisture rather than delivering heat into the room

What Species are the Kiln Dried Logs from? 2015-07-27T15:14:01+00:00

We only sell Birch Kiln Dried Logs which are a very good hardwood for heating. They also have the added bonus of burning with a nice bright flame when compared to other hardwoods like Oak or Beech.

Do you put my logs into my wood store? 2015-07-27T15:14:08+00:00

Whilst we try to do everything we can to help unfortunately we do not unpack the pallets. As we use an external delivery company it is solely their job to deliver the pallet to an accessible location (see Delivery Information for access requirements).

The logs are delivered in a sturdy wooden crate which can double up as a log store, all it needs is a top to keep the rain off.

What are my Payment options? 2017-03-16T16:02:46+00:00

For online orders we only use Paypal. Paypal now allows you to use your credit or debits card to make a payment without a paypal account. This is secure for you and means we never see your credit card details.

We can take cash on collection at our storage site if you are collecting in person, we don’t have card payment facilities there.
