These ovens are rustic handmade ovens with a high degree of insulation making them ideal not just for pizzas but for slow roasting and more. As they are rustic ovens the shape can vary slightly.
Minor hairline cracks may occur in the dome of the oven due to expansion and contraction. This is not something to be concerned about and some of the ovens now come with a resin kit for you to repair these cracks. If a kit is not supplied one can be purchased from us. Larger cracks can occur from not following the curing process, having the fire too close to the front of the oven or having too large a fire in the oven causing it to overheat. In most cases these cracks can also be filled.
The paint on the metal surfaces can chip or flake over time and may need some maintenance especially if the oven is left out uncovered during the winter. These metal surfaces can be easily touched up with stove paint. The main dome of the oven can be painted with a standard outdoor masonry paint. Some customers have even customised their ovens by painting them a different colour.
These ovens need to be covered in the winter. The cork material will let water in and leaving them uncovered will risk frost damage. If the oven gets wet over a prolonged period please follow the curing process to dry it out slowly with small fires before using it again.
The door hinges may need a small amount of oil applied every year to keep them moving freely especially if the oven is left out uncovered during prolonged wet weather.
You are purchasing a high quality rustic, handmade oven with character that will need some care and maintenance to keep it looking great. If you are looking for a polished production line, blemish free product this is probably not for you!
