Wood-Fired Hot Tubs in Scotland: Buying Guide, Costs and Care

See it. Sit in it. Then let us deliver and set it up.

A wood-fired hot tub is one of the best things you can add to a Scottish garden: a hot, steaming soak under a cold sky, with no electricity bill running in the background. But spending £4,000 or more on something you have only seen in photos is a leap of faith. At Calido you don't have to take it. We're a family-run Scottish business and an official Kirami dealer, with a Stirling showroom, a forty-minute drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow, where our best-selling tubs are set up so you can climb in, feel the depth and see the finish before you spend a penny. Then we deliver it on our own vans, position it, fill it and make sure it's running before we leave.

What sets us apart

Why buy your hot tub from Calido

There is no shortage of places selling wood-fired hot tubs online. Very few of them are a real shop you can walk into, run by people who will still answer the phone when you need a spare part in two years.

We're an official Kirami dealer, not a box shifter

Kirami have been hand building wood-fired hot tubs in Finland for over 20 years, from premium Thermowood and Red Cedar. We carry our best-sellers in stock and know them inside out, because we sell and service them every week.

A showroom you can actually sit in

Our display just outside Stirling has our most popular tubs set up as they would look in your garden. Photos can't tell you how deep a tub sits, how the Thermowood feels, or whether a two seater is really big enough for your family. Ten minutes in the showroom can.

We deliver and set it up ourselves

Across our Central Scotland heartland we use our own vehicles. We position the tub, fill it, and make sure it's running before we leave. No kerbside drop and go.

We're honest about the trade-offs

A wood-fired tub is not an electric spa. We'll tell you about the heat up time, the base you'll need and the maintenance, so you buy the right thing once. That's how a family business keeps customers for years.

How much does a wood-fired hot tub cost?

It's the first thing everyone wants to know, and most sites make you fill in a form to find out. We won't. Here are our prices, grouped by size so you can find your budget fast.

Guide prices, checked against the shop on 10 August 2026. What you pay depends on the collection, the finish and any upgrades, and every tub further down this page shows its current price.

Why the range within a size?

Three things move the price. The collection: Original is the value line, Comfort adds seating comfort and finish choices, Premium is the top tier with Red Cedar and integrated systems. The exterior finish: Thermowood, Red Cedar, or maintenance-free EcoPlank and EcoStripe. And any upgrades: LED lighting, an insulated cover, a cold water tap. We'll price your exact spec, in writing, before you commit.

What else to budget for

Fuel. You only pay to heat it when you use it. A single soak takes roughly a burner load of kiln-dried logs, or faster, our Pini Kay oak briquettes.

The base. A firm, level surface. Some tubs sit on existing slabs or reinforced decking, larger tubs need a proper foundation. Cost depends entirely on your garden.

Delivery and siting. Available on request.

Spread the cost

For a purchase this size, most people finance it. Finance is provided by Novuna, Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC. Calido Fuels Ltd is an FCA authorised credit broker, FRN 1016538, and credit is subject to status and affordability. Klarna, Clearpay and Shop Pay are available at checkout for accessories and smaller amounts.

Read this first

Before you buy: the honest bits about a wood-fired hot tub

We'd rather you know all of this now than be surprised later. None of it is a deal breaker, but you should go in with your eyes open.

1. Heat up takes time, so plan your soak

A wood-fired tub isn't on at the flick of a switch. Ours take roughly two hours for a smaller tub and up to three for a larger one, depending on the starting water and your fuel. In a cold Scottish winter, start it a little earlier. Use our Pini Kay oak briquettes rather than logs and you'll heat faster. The upside: with the insulated cover on, it usually stays warm until the next morning, so a second soak is quick.

2. Running costs are low, but maintenance is real

There is no electricity bill, but there is upkeep. A Thermowood or Red Cedar exterior wants oiling roughly once a year. Choose an EcoPlank or EcoStripe finish and it is essentially maintenance-free. The larger burners have an anti-corrosion anode that should be swapped about once a year, a quick job. And you rinse the tub between water changes.

3. Water care is simpler than an electric spa, but it isn't zero

With no pumps or chemical dosing systems, many owners simply change the water every few uses and keep it clean. If you want to hold water for longer you can treat it, but you won't be managing filters and pumps the way you would with a plumbed electric spa.

4. It's a peaceful soak, not a jacuzzi

Our Kirami tubs don't have jets. That's deliberate. Wood-fired bathing is about the crackle of the fire and a quiet, hot soak, not a bubbling massage. If jets are the thing you want most, a wood-fired tub isn't for you, and we'll say so.

5. They're heavy, so the base matters

A larger tub weighs around 1,000 kg when full. That rules out flimsy decking and soft ground for the bigger models. Get the base right first and everything else is easy.

6. Siting and access need a quick think

The burner sits beside the tub. Moving it more than 1m away may void the warranty, so plan the layout. And we need a clear route to get the tub into position on delivery day. A five-minute check now avoids a headache later, and it is exactly what the advice call is for.

Compare

Wood-fired vs electric hot tub, which makes sense in Scotland?

This is the big decision, and the honest answer depends on how you'll use it. Here's the straight comparison.

Wood-fired hot tubs compared with electric spas on cost, power, winter use, install, maintenance and experience.
Wood-fired (Kirami)Electric spa
Running cost You heat it only when you use it. No standing electricity charge. Fuel is logs or briquettes per soak.Kept warm around the clock by an electric heater. Standing costs run all year and climb steeply through a cold winter.
Power needed None. Just water and wood, so it works completely off-grid.Needs a suitable electricity supply, often a dedicated circuit and an electrician.
Winter use Built for it. A hot soak in the snow is the whole point, with no winter cost penalty.Usable, but the coldest months are when the electric standing costs hurt most.
Install A firm level base, then we deliver, position and fill it.A base plus electrical work, and sometimes craning into position.
Maintenance Wood oiling, or maintenance-free EcoPlank, an annual anode and water changes. No pumps.Pumps, filters and chemical dosing to maintain.
The experience Quiet, natural, a crackling fire, no jets.Jets and bubbles, at the cost of pump noise and power.

The Scottish angle, plainly: our winters are long and cold, which is exactly when an electric tub's standing costs are highest and a wood-fired tub's advantage is biggest. You get the winter soak everyone actually wants a hot tub for, without watching a meter spin.

Size guide

Which Kirami tub: 2, 4 or 6 plus people?

The other decision is size. Bigger is not automatically better. A tub that's too large costs more to fill and heat for soaks you'll usually do with two or three people.

Wood-fired hot tub for 2 people

The Tiny and S tubs. Perfect for couples, quicker to heat, and small enough to fit tight gardens or, in the two-person models, suitable decking. Best-seller: the Kirami Original Tiny.

Wood-fired hot tub for 4 people, up to 6

The M tubs, and our most popular size. Room for the family without being a monster to heat. Look at the Kirami Original Breezy M and the showroom favourite Kirami Comfort Family M.

Wood-fired hot tub for 6 to 8 people

The L tubs. For big families and entertainers. The Kirami Comfort Family L is the sweet spot, and the Kirami Premium Woody L is the top end statement piece.

And the three Kirami collections: Original is the value line, Comfort steps up seating comfort and finish choices, and Premium is the top tier with Red Cedar, integrated Flow and Dual systems and the flagship design. Not sure which? That's what the showroom and a twenty minute advice call are for.

Narrow it down

Not sure which one? Start here

Two ways to narrow it down yourself before you ever speak to us:

Answer three questions

How many usually soak together? Two people points to a Tiny or S, four to six suits an M, six to eight needs an L.

What base do you have? Paving slabs or engineered decking can take most sizes. Standard garden decking is safe for a two-person tub only.

How much upkeep do you want? Happy with an annual oil? Choose Thermowood or Cedar. Want it maintenance-free? Choose EcoPlank or EcoStripe.

Book an advice call

It's only a starting point, which is why the showroom and the advice call exist, but it stops you over buying.

Siting and base

Where can you put a wood-fired hot tub? Base, siting and access

The single most common question after price. Get this right and the rest is easy.

The base must be firm and level

A full tub is heavy. The larger models are around 1,000 kg filled. Suitable bases include a concrete pad, existing patio slabs in good condition, or a reinforced or engineered deck.

Decking, and be honest about it

Our two-person tubs can usually sit on good-quality decking. The larger tubs need engineered decking built to take roughly a tonne, or a solid slab or concrete base instead. If you're not sure your deck is up to it, tell us and we'll advise.

Plan the burner position

The wood burner sits alongside the tub. It can be moved slightly further away using a hose, but placing it more than 1m from the tub may void the warranty, so design the spot with that in mind.

Leave a delivery route

We need a clear path to get the tub into position on the day. Narrow side returns, steps or locked off access are worth flagging in advance so delivery goes smoothly.

Flue and clearances

A 1m flue extension is available if you need the chimney a little taller for your setting.

Send us a couple of photos of your intended spot on the advice call and we'll tell you honestly whether it'll work before you buy.

FAQ

Hot Tub FAQs

How much does a wood-fired hot tub cost?

Our Kirami tubs start from £3,870 for a two-person tub, from £3,880 for the popular 4 to 6 person size, and from £5,210 for a 6 to 8 person tub, up to £10,170 for the top-of-the-range Premium models. Cold plunge tubs start from £2,740. The final price depends on the collection, exterior finish and any upgrades, and we'll give you a written price for your exact spec.

How long does a wood-fired hot tub take to heat up?

Roughly two hours for a smaller tub and up to three hours for a larger one, depending on the starting water temperature and your fuel. In winter, allow a little longer. Our Pini Kay oak briquettes heat faster than logs.

Are wood-fired hot tubs expensive to run?

No. They're usually cheaper to run than electric spas, because you only heat the water when you want to use it. There's no electricity standing cost keeping it warm around the clock, which matters most through a cold Scottish winter.

Do I need electricity for a wood-fired hot tub?

No. Kirami wood-fired tubs need only water and wood, so there is no power supply to arrange and they work anywhere in the garden, completely off-grid.

How much maintenance does a wood-fired hot tub need?

Minimal, but not zero. Treat a Thermowood or Cedar exterior with oil about once a year, or choose a maintenance-free EcoPlank finish. Change the anti-corrosion anode on larger burners roughly once a year, and rinse between water changes. There are no pumps or filters to service.

Do wood-fired hot tubs stay warm overnight?

Usually until the following morning, as long as you use the insulated cover provided.

Can I put a wood-fired hot tub on decking?

A two-person tub can usually sit on good-quality decking. Larger tubs weigh around 1,000 kg when full and need engineered decking or a solid slab or concrete base. We'll advise on your setup.

Do wood-fired hot tubs have jets?

No. Kirami tubs are designed for a quiet, natural soak around the fire rather than a jetted, bubbling spa. If jets are essential for you, a wood-fired tub isn't the right choice.

What's the best fuel for a wood-fired hot tub?

Kiln dried logs work well, but our Pini Kay oak briquettes have a higher energy content, so they heat the tub faster and more efficiently.

Do you deliver and install across Scotland?

Yes. Across Central Scotland we deliver on our own vehicles, position the tub, fill it and make sure it's running before we leave. We've installed across Scotland from Aberdeen to the Borders, and we deliver Kirami hot tubs UK-wide via our pallet network.

How long is the warranty?

Kirami wood-fired hot tubs come with a two-year warranty, excluding damage from misuse or lack of maintenance. Note that placing the burner more than 1m from the tub may void the warranty.

Can I see a hot tub before I buy?

Yes. Our best-sellers are on display at our Stirling showroom, a forty-minute drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Highly recommended before spending several thousand pounds.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. Finance is available on hot tubs via Novuna, Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC. Calido is an FCA authorised credit broker and credit is subject to status. Klarna, Clearpay and Shop Pay cover accessories and smaller amounts.

Are wood-fired hot tubs called anything else?

Yes. The same product goes by several names: wood-burning hot tub, log burner hot tub, log fire hot tub, log burning hot tub, and outdoor wood-fired hot tub. They all mean the same thing.

Why Kirami rather than a cheaper tub?

Kirami have hand built wood-fired hot tubs in Finland for over 20 years, using premium Thermowood and Red Cedar. Well looked after, a Kirami tub should last a lifetime, which over the years you'll own it is where the value is.
